The central design motif, of course, once again features the classic Sugar Maple Leaf design, unchanged since it was created by Walter Ott (1920–2022) more than four decades ago, yet now struck to super incuse depths. Due to an interesting quirk of Royal Canadian Mint’s transition to the new King Charles III effigy, these coins will be the only Walter Ott-designed maples issued in 2024 to display the effigy of late Queen Elizabeth II!
These coins have also been struck as Reverse Proofs, a unique finish that really emphasizes its contrasting detail. Different from a regular proof coin that features frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, Reverse Proof coins have mirror-like details rising over frosted fields. What’s more, each coin available here has been graded by the Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) as being in flawless Proof-70 (PF70) condition, a distinction that means your perfectly-graded proof will have ZERO imperfections—showing all features and fields exactly as the engraver and mint intended. In addition, NGC has certified that these Maple Leaves are First Day of Issue (FDI) coins, meaning they were received by NGC or an NGC-approved depository by the release date or on the business day within 24 hours of the official release date. Each will also come sonically sealed in a museum-quality acrylic holder and encapsulated with a special Maple Leaf label.
One of the world’s oldest and most popular gold bullion coin programs, the Canadian Gold Maple Leaf debuted in 1979.
