The central design motif, of course, once again features the classic Sugar Maple Leaf design, unchanged since it was created by Walter Ott (1920–2022) more than four decades ago, yet now struck to super incuse depths. Due to an interesting quirk of Royal Canadian Mint’s transition to the new King Charles III effigy, these coins will be the only Walter Ott-designed maples issued in 2024 to display the effigy of late Queen Elizabeth II!

These coins have also been struck as Reverse Proofs, a unique finish that really emphasizes its contrasting detail. Different from a regular proof coin that features frosted details rising over mirror-like fields, Reverse Proof coins have mirror-like details rising over frosted fields.
