Motif and characteristics of the kangaroo gold coin

The kangaroo is issued in gold with annually changing motifs. The reverse of each small gold coin portrays a kangaroo looking over its shoulder with a eucalyptus tree and grass trees in the background. Right next to the shrubery, the official mint mark of the Perth Mint ("P") can also be seen. The legend shows the name of the coin, the year of issue, the fine weight (1 ounce) and the fineness (9999 gold). The value side shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is typical for commonwealth coins. The design is by Jody Clark (his abbreviation can be seen on the lower end of the left shoulder).

In addition, the issuing country and the official nominal value of 100 Australian dollars are stamped on the inscription. The edition of the 1 oz. Kangaroo 2023 in gold is not limited.

History of the coin

Australian bullion coins have been in circulation since 1986 and weigh one ounce and are also called "nuggets". The first editions (1986-1989) show representations and names of famous nuggets on the motif side.
