These single source gold coins are composed entirely of gold originating from a single Canadian source. The gold in this coin originated from the Newmont Éléonore mine in Northern Quebec. The Newmont Éléonore mine is among the largest mines in Quebec and currently produces upwards of 260,000 ounces of gold per year. The obverse of the 2023 Canadian Gold Single Source Maple Leaf Coin showcases the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. This depiction was created by Susanna Blunt and showcases Her Majesty in right profile relief, notably without a crown. This is the final effigy to be seen on Canadian coinage.
